The Power BI report below holds sentimental values as it was the report I submitted for my Power BI assessment when interviewing for my role at STAG Industrial.
Prior to the assessment my familiarity with Power BI was quite basic. However, within my first week at STAG, I developed a Power BI report that has since become the landing page for our business intelligence application. This marked the beginning of my journey to becoming the Power BI subject matter expert within the company.
This particular report dives into Company XYZ's sales data from September 2013 to December 2014, a period during which the company globally sold a variety of products.
Faced with an open-ended task, I was challenged to create a report with an additional data source that would captivate senior-level stakeholders' interest. Without specific guidance on what this additional data should be, I had the freedom to explore various avenues. I chose to integrate Google Search Trends related to XYZ's products and their respective countries during the same timeframe. The aim was to add insight on external market trends and consumer sentiments with our internal sales data.
In a real-world scenario, engaging directly with stakeholders would have been my next step, seeking their feedback to fine-tune the report. This collaborative approach would ensure the report not only meets but exceeds senior management's expectations by adjusting the level of detailed tabular information and other specifics as per their preferences.
